Hello,
I am the parent of a 13 yr. old mixed breed dog. She has a few health issues, such as benign cysts on/in her fur, but they are not an issue, other than she tried to lick them all the time. She also has a large fluid filled tumor on her one side, again, not cancer and the Vet says it is OK as long as it doesn't get in the way of her walking etc. It is well between her front right legs, so not an issue. My concern is that she constantly wants to go outside. She is VERY smart, so knows if she goes out, when she comes back IN she gets a treat. I have tried to cut down on that, so she doesn't think that "going out = a treat". Not sure how well that is working though...? I am on Central Standard Time, so we get up about 5:45 and she goes out right away. I have logged that she also went out again almost immediately after the very 1st time, today: this a.m. after coming back in (something she always does every day) at maybe 6:00 or 6:15 (comes back in with NO treat), then she went out AGAIN = 3 x's before 9:00 a.m. Then at like 9:40a she acted like she wanted to go out AGAIN and/or was upset about something. Right now at 10:45 she is again at the landing, wanting to go out.

Dogs are amazing animals. When given the chance, they are trustworthy and reliable pets. In past months, I've come to believe that these animals can teach us something. We must also look at how they are being handled. Humans are disappointing the canine population in a variety of respects, including abandonment, reckless breeding, and negligence.
