Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Why is the APBT Database a paid service?

The APBT Database is the largest and most visited pedigree database of its kind in the world, and its operation is very expensive. After 14 years of funding it from my own family budget, its operation became unsustainable, especially with the worsening economic situation.

I was faced with the decision of either shutting down the database completely or finding a way to cover its costs. The fee of €20 per year helps cover the costs of servers and maintenance, which have exceeded $25,000 over 14 years. It's important to note that this figure covers purely operational costs and does not account for the years of programming work invested in the database. We believe the annual fee of €20 is more than acceptable and affordable for anyone involved with breeding dogs. We are confident that the value the APBT Database provides will repay this amount many times over.

What should I do if I paid the annual fee but my account is not activated?

Activation occurs automatically by matching the email address used for the payment with the email address registered in the database. It is crucial that these two emails are identical.

If you have entered a different email, there is no need to panic. Log in to your APBT Database account, go to your profile, and change your registered email to the one you used for the payment. The system will then automatically activate your account within a few hours. From then on, you will use the new email to log in.

How can I get a dog's pedigree under my management after purchasing the dog?

On each pedigree page, you will find a "Report pedigree" button under the dog's photo. You can use this button to request various changes (such as names, titles, etc.). If you are the new owner of the dog, you can also use this feature to request the transfer of the pedigree to your account, which will grant you full editing rights.

Are there any rules on the APBT Database?

Yes, we have 5 fundamental rules that are key to the proper functioning of the community. You can find all the rules on this page: APBT Database Rules.

It is very important to be familiar with them and to follow them. Violating these rules may lead to a temporary or permanent block of some of your account's features.

What if I can't log in because I don't remember my password?

You can easily reset your password using the forgotten password form, which you can find at this link: Password Reset.

For this process, you will need access to the email address registered with your account. If you no longer have access to that email, please create a new account and then contact the administrator (username "admin") to resolve the issue.

Is sharing a single user account allowed?

No, sharing a single user account is strictly forbidden and violates the rules of registration. An advanced automated system monitors for suspicious activity (e.g., access from multiple IP addresses or geographic locations).

If the system detects suspicious activity, it will send a warning. If the situation reoccurs, your account may be temporarily blocked as a preventive measure or, in severe cases, permanently blocked to protect your private data and prevent misuse.

What happens to my active sessions when I change my password?

Whenever a password is changed, the system automatically checks if all active sessions (cookies) match the latest password update. If not, those sessions are immediately logged out.

This measure prevents account sharing and unauthorized access by instantly blocking other devices or users who might have previously gained access to your account.

How can I renew my annual license?

If your license is about to expire (30 days or less), you'll now see a "Renew license" button directly on the site, and you'll also receive an email and a private message as a reminder.

Clicking the button opens a popup with options to pay via PayPal or Stripe. If you renew early, the new 12-month period will always be added to the end of your current license, so you won't lose a single day.

Can I share editing rights for a dog's pedigree with a kennel colleague (Co-author)?

Yes. The dog owner can now add **Co-authors** who can edit (UPDATE) that dog just like the owner. You can do this on the dog's detail page.

It's important to understand that everyone who edits (owner or co-author) must have an active annual subscription (license). This is not license sharing; it's permission for your colleague to edit the same dog on their own, paid license.
